A Guide To The Common Culprits OF Orthodontic Problems

September 30, 2024

Here at Winchester Orthodontics, we know the way teeth are shaped and positioned have a big effect on the way they look, feel and function. Our orthodontist has years of experience correcting misaligned teeth and jaws to provide our patients with life-changing results. The power of a perfectly proportioned smile can never be underestimated!

Today we’d like to delve into the different types of teeth and how they can be affected by orthodontic conditions that can benefit from our award-winning care.

  • The front teeth known as Incisors (four on the top and four on the bottom) are often the focus of orthodontic treatment because of conditions such as crowding, gaps, or misalignment These issues can significantly impact one’s appearance and bite.
  • The four pointed teeth on either side of the incisors known as the canines (because of their resemblance to a dog’s fangs) can become misaligned or impacted, affecting the overall bite and jaw alignment.
  • Molars, the twelve largest teeth at the back of the mouth, can affect chewing function and jaw alignment if they become impacted or misaligned.
  • If our eight premolars (four on the top and four on the bottom) are crowded, misaligned, or impacted, this can contribute to bite problems and affect the alignment of our other teeth. Also known as bicuspids, the premolars are located behind the canines.

If you have concerns about your teeth or bite, we’d like you to know that we have more treatment options than ever before for delivering a smile that will feel and function as good as it looks!

Besides traditional metal braces, the orthodontist at Winchester Orthodontics also offers ceramic braces that add a splash of color, lingual braces that hide discreetly behind the teeth, and clear aligners that no one besides you will even know you’re wearing!
